Dare I say the end is near?!?!

I now have a fully functioning home. There are still a few things left...a light, a switch, etc., but I would say that we are 99% complete. We should be settling up with the contractor in the next few days. Jim and I spent the evening tonight washing all the dishes out of each cabinets and cleaning everything in the living area. We wiped down all the walls, swept and mopped all the floors and it is amazing how beautiful everything has turned out. The back of the house is still a disaster from all the dishevel we've been living in, but the front is immaculate!! We worked really hard and I think it shows.

This is the finished living room. The floors are gorgeous. We will be getting new furniture as soon as we can get time to go shopping and find something we can agree on.

Dining from entrance.

Kitchen from dining room.

Granite...Mary Gold (it's an exotic and the price proved it...didn't know that when I picked it out Level II). The picture doesn't really pick up the colors of chocolate, black and cream.

The corbels are stunning but again the pics just don't do them justice. There will be 2 more in the living room under the bar (they are laying on the floor in one of the pics above).

With the exception of new furniture I guess the blog is complete...finally. I will never agree that it should have taken 5 months, but I did get pretty close to exactly what I hoped for. As usual, hindsight is 20/20 and there are a few things that I would have done differently but I am happy with the end result and I know we are going to love living here. Everyone is welcome to come by and visit anytime. We will be having a party as soon as we get everything complete with decorating or at least to a good point.

Thanks for everyone's support during this remodeling nightmare. I appreciate everyone's encouragment and advice.

The end is in sight!!

What?!?! Two blogs in one week...that can only mean that things are finally happening at a faster pace right? YEAH!!!

So we have the kitchen cabinets including doors and drawers. Hopefully knobs and pulls installed tomorrow. Then crown molding will go on tomorrow or Wednesday. Granite is supposed to go on Wednesday.

The dining room floor was tiled today and will be grouted tomorrow. It looks amazing and finally Jim loves something!!

Saturday the living room floor should be the last thing to be done...we are counting down the minutes!!

Still not done!!!

Ok many of my friends and family have complained that I have not updated this in so long. There is a really good reason...NOTHING HAS CHANGED!! My last updated post was around August 26 and I can honestly say that the only things that have been completed since then is the attic door in the garage is finished and the decking in the attic above the garage is done. A few pieces of baseboard has been installed and the window and door casings have been finished but not painted. But I have to say that finally in the last week, starting last Wednesday, the cabinets are being painted. It took from Wednesday to Sunday (they "worked" thru the weekend) for them to get primed and as of today (Wed) the doors got their final coat of paint. It took one full week to paint the cabinets white...is it any wonder that Monday will mark our 5th...let me spell that out just in case you think that is a typo...FIFTH...month of remodeling. Jada has built a 3500 square foot house since July (2 months less than me) and will be painting this week or next week.

Ok I digress...anyway, the painting contractor is painting all the trim and doors this week as well as the cabinets. The granite was suppose to be installed tomorrow but I didn't see the need to have him put in granite that would then have to be protected from the top coat they are putting on the cabinets so I told the GC to wait until after the cabinets are complete. It will most likely be Monday.

Although my brothers so generously offered to lay my flooring for free, due to the delay with the GC in completing the remodel, their schedules are more difficult now with John back in college. We are so ready to be done, that instead of waiting for him to get a break in his schedule we are just going to pay someone to lay the flooring as soon as possible which just happens to be Monday.

This is the first sample of the kitchen cabinet glazing. The picture was taken with my phone so not the best quality, but the drawer looks a lot better in person. I think it is going to be really pretty and totally looks like the "Old World" look that I was going for. The pulls and knobs are Oil Rubbed Bronze and I think they will look great (they are actually both dark brown like the knob...pic not good representation of actual product)

That's all for now...hopefully I will have more to report in the next week...I'm not holding my breath tho!!
